Hi, I’m Rhys.
I have probably written bios like this at least a hundred times, and just like me, they are an evolution.
I grew up in Oklahoma, but spent my entire adult life in New York City (about 9 years) and then Syracuse (a little over 2 years), until recently, when I relocated to Little Rock, AR, where I am currently living and working as a photographer.
I was adopted on my first birthday by the most amazing parents I could have ever asked for. They have supported me, cheered for me, and helped me grow into the person I am today. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
In January 2014, I started making portraits of people of transgender and gender non-conforming experience to show that trans and gender non-conforming humans are just as awesome and diverse as everyone else. I spent three weeks driving from New York to Los Angeles and then back to New York making over 35 environmental portraits of people, and I met the most amazing people while doing it.
Eating guacamole, hitting the snooze for 3 hours, sleeping through tornado sirens, taking care of people, having empathy, cooking, and making photographs.
Things I’d like to be better at:
Sending snail mail, making time for myself, friends, and family, not waiting until I run out of underwear to do my laundry.
Feel free to drop me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org. I get a lot of email, so I can’t always respond in a timely manner, but I do read every email – and if it’s pressing, don’t hesitate to send me another nudge!
